children's rights research

The Children’s Rights Research Fund raises funds for academic research on children’s rights and related educational project. Although we recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, children’s rights are grossly violated on a daily basis and on a global scale. The fund currently supports Marieke Hopman’s PhD research, titled “Looking at Law through Children’s Eyes”. On Thursday 9 May 2019, Marieke successfully defended her PhD thesis. The title is: ‘Looking at law through children’s eyes’.

The aim of the research is to create a new understanding of children’s rights violations. This opens up (possibilities for) social transformation. The assumption here is that a better understanding of different legal orders relating to children and children’s rights will provide information useful for policy.
