Around 1 billion people live in slums around the globe. These people are exposed to significant health risks, such as indoor air pollution, which makes them highly likely to contract lung diseases such as lung cancer and COPD. India is the country where these problems are the most severe. Maastricht University sees addressing this unacceptable and unhealthy situation as part of its mission to focus on global issues. Indian and Dutch researchers want to work together to contribute to a healthier future for the residents of slums, in India and elsewhere, by developing affordable and efficient services. Scientific research is essential to accomplishing this ambition. This requires support from everyone, including from third parties outside Maastricht University.
Goal
This fund aims to support scientific research at UM that is specifically aimed at promoting health in slums in India and other developing countries.
