The Hemker Fund aims – in the spirit of its godfather – at supporting and ecouraging education and research in the field of haemostasis and thrombosis. Among other things it established a professorship, an international trainingprogram and grants in order for original and innovative research ideas to develop themselves to the extent that they will become promising in obtaining grants.
Professor Coen Hemker was one of the founders of Maastricht University, earned national and international renown thanks to his research on blood coagulation, published more than 400 academic articles and books, supervised or co-supervised 67 PhD candidates, aquired dozens of patents, and was rector of the Maastricht University. And if that’s not enough, Professor Coen Hemker also took the very first PhD degree at Maastricht University in 1976.
