Now that it has its Knowledge Transfer Office, Maastricht University (UM) has taken another step towards establishing an integral knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship policy. In so doing, we have ensured that encouraging entrepreneurship is one of the four pillars of the UM Knowledge Transfer Office, along with ‘Knowledge Cooperation’, ‘Technology Transfer’ and ‘Knowledge Dissemination’.
This step towards achieving a broader vision has been embedded university-wide by means of the establishment of a new ‘Knowledge Transfer and University Venturing’ chair.
It seems reasonable to expect that third parties and businesses will be willing to make a contribution to our achieving this aim. Partially for this reason, the university has decided to create a special fund within the University Fund Limburg, whose capital will be earmarked specifically for activities designed to help the university achieve this aim. Third parties will be able to transfer any donations they wish to make into this special fund.
The fund’s objectives
The Knowledge Transfer Fund has the following particular objectives:
- Enabling the university to establish and support the ‘Knowledge Transfer and University Venturing’ chair;
- Supporting the academic development of the disciplines of ‘Knowledge Transfer’, ‘Knowledge Cooperation’; ‘Technology Transfer’, ‘Knowledge Dissemination’, ‘Entrepreneurship’ and ‘University Venturing’, in the fullest sense of the words;
- Supporting teaching activities in the fields of knowledge transfer and venturing, in the fullest sense of the words.
Advisory committee
The Knowledge Transfer Fund has its own advisory committee, which will advise the board of the University Fund Limburg on financial outlay designed to help the university attain the aforementioned objectives. At the time of the establishment of the Knowledge Transfer Fund, this advisory committee was comprised of three members, namely Mr B. Wesly, entrepreneur; Mr J. Lamkin, entrepreneur; and J. Cobbenhagen, professor at UM.
