The focus of the Peter Elverding chair is to conduct research, contribute to educational programs, and engage with practitioners in the area of sustainable business, corporate culture and long termism.
In this respect, several influencers of long termism and corporate decision-making will be researched: such as the role of corporate regulation, corporate culture, and the role of the board as well as external stakeholders, more in particular the role of institutional investors (with a focus on asset owners) and private investors.
The goal of the chair
The primary goal of this chair is to embed the legacy of Mr Peter Elverding and his contribution to the development of Maastricht University, its Institute of Corporate Law, Governance and Innovation Policies (ICGI), and the Dutch business environment in general.
The chair will strengthen the already existing (international and European) corporate/business regulation and sustainability profile of Maastricht University. This will be done by means of academic research as well as by means of encouraging innovative teaching initiatives combining several disciplines, leading to a third goal: boosting the interdisciplinary research and teaching and collaboration between the Faculty of Law and the School of Business and Economics by means of a cooperation between research institutes ICGI (LAW) and ECCE (SBE).
Chair-holders
The chair-holders are Prof. Dr. Rob Bauer of the School of Business and Economics, and Prof. Dr. Mieke Olaerts of the Faculty of Law (see the picture).
