The chair in Youth, Food and Health is engaged in research and education revolving around young people and healthy nutrition.
Based at the Brightlands Campus Greenport in Venlo, the chair has three objectives. First, the professors appointed to the chair investigate the key research questions: why do young people often eat unhealthily, and how can they be incentivised to eat healthily?
Drawing on these research findings, the second aim is to develop concrete interventions to encourage young people to actually eat more healthily in practice. For example, the chair works together with Kokkerelli, the Kids University for Cooking: a ‘laboratory in practice’ with educational programmes for children focused on nutrition.
Last but not least, the chair is an educator with teaching duties, showing students how scientific research can be applied in practice.
Chair holders
The chair holders are professors Remco Havermans and Edgar van Mil, both employed at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Maastricht University.
