Last year, Redeat Assefa successfully completed her master’s degree in Global Health at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. The student from Ethiopia was able to attend UM thanks to a scholarship from the Elisabeth Strouven Fund.
Redeat Assefa is very grateful for that: “The Elisabeth Strouven scholarship gave me an opportunity to follow my dreams in studying Global Health, and to learn more about health and disease holistically, beyond the clinical aspect. It has made me more versed in understanding the different players and factors in the health of communities. It has cemented my deep commitment to address health disparities. I wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity to learn, to experience new things and to change my life for the better if it wasn’t for the Elisabeth Strouven scholarship.”
United States
She is now continuing her studies at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the United States. Redeat Assefa: “I plan to harness the knowledge and skillset I gained from the program to contribute to and to champion for the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged communities that represent my background and experiences. Combining my Global Health degree with my current education will be ideal for my career goals as a researcher, a clinician and an advocate for Global Health.”
