We are pleased to announce that leading energy and chemicals company Saudi Aramco, is supporting a research programme on the Sustainability of Biobased Materials in a circular economy, at the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM).

With Saudi Aramco’s generous donation, Maastricht University is able to establish a Chair that will focus on the Sustainability of Biobased Materials. The chair holder will supervise and initiate research projects in this relatively new domain and simultaneously introduce the research expertise in the curriculum of the Biobased Materials programme.

Through its partnership with Maastricht University, Saudi Aramco wishes to support the continued development of sustainable solutions in the chemicals sector. The Company is already invested in the sector, through its joint venture Arlanxeo (Limburg, NL), which was established in 2016 between Saudi Aramco and leading chemicals company Lanxess – for the development, manufacturing and marketing of synthetic high-performance rubber used in the automotive, tire, construction and oil and gas industries.

The University Fund Limburg/SWOL was able to introduce Aramco to Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials and is very pleased to have led the formation of this partnership; a collaboration that will prove to be beneficial to both partners. Maastricht University is confident that this will be the start of a long lasting relationship with Aramco.
